Stocking the book cabinet.

Thank you for choosing to donate your new or nearly new books to Twice Upon a Time.

Please review the following information to make sure we’re the right place for your donated books:

Books in demand:

We are currently seeking donations of new or nearly new books suitable for children up to the age of 12.  We have an especially high demand for:

  • Board books for babies (books that can be chewed, but are not already chewed!)
  • French books
  • Graphic novels in English and French
  • Books that are culturally diverse

A list of in-demand titles can be found on our Book List.

Our goal is to provide the children we serve with books that are new/nearly new, current,  relevant and culturally diverse.

We respectfully decline:

  • Books that are in poor condition – torn pages or covers, yellowed pages, writing or highlighting, stains, mold or mildew or broken bindings
  • Books that once belonged to a library or school
  • Non-fiction books that have a published date of over 8 years ago. Older non-fiction books run the risk of spreading out-of-date information
  • Teen and young adult fiction
  • Books that have missing or broken pieces
  • Noise and sound books
  • Sticker activity books
  • Text books
  • Magazines
  • Audio books
  • Movies
  • Recorded music
  • Dictionaries
  • Encyclopedias

Books that do not meet the above Twice Upon a Time book donation guidelines are brought to the Friends of the Ottawa Public Library Association (FOPLA), a local thrift store, or another appropriate location.
